Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the pride of India, the Bharat Ratna, a great poet, a brilliant writer but above all he was the best Prime Minister India can ever have. Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee  was the gift from God given to our country. He was among the most loved political leaders in India.


Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji was born on 25th December, 1924 in Gwalior. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s father Shri Krishna Bihari Vajpayee was a school teacher. Shri Atal ji did his schooling in Gwalior from Saraswati Shishu Mandir.He was graduated from Victoria College in Gwalior with distinction in English , Hindi And Sanskrit. He then completed his post graduation in M.A political science from Kanpur’s DAV college.

Political Journey

Atal ji joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1942 . He was elected in Lok Sabha from Balrampur. At that time the Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru was so much impressed with his presentation in public speaking that Jawahar Lal Nehru predicted about Atal ji that “some day he will be the Prime Minister of India “.

In the Indian general election,1977 Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji became the Minister of External Affairs in the cabinet of Prime Minister Morarji Desai. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first person in United Nations General Assembly to deliver speech in Hindi. When Morarji Desai resigned from his post of Prime Minister because Janata Dal had issues with in the party. Atal ji formed Bharatiya Janata Party with L.K.Advani and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in 1989. Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the first President of BJP. BJP was the strongest opposition party against Congress.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of India three consecutive times. First in the year 1996, but only for 13days, he had  to resign from his Prime Minister’s post because BJP didn’t get Majority in Lok Sabha. The second time in the Indian general elections 1998,BJP with other majority party formed National Democratic Alliance but AIADMK under the leadership of Jayalalitha  withdrew their support from the alliance and the government lists it’s vote of confidence by one vote in the Lok Sabha and the government lasted for 13 months.

But in year 1999, in the 13thLok Sabha, BJP and alliance won  the election under the leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee because of the great Prime Minister leadership by Atal ji in 13 months periods. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is known to be the best Prime Minister of India.

 The great achievements

In 1998, India conducted five successful nuclear test in desert of Pokhran in Rajasthan under his Prime Ministry leadership. Thus, India was declared as the Nuclear powered nation. However, many countries disliked this decision of Atal ji but he was the man with brave heart stood up to his decision. Many countries like USA and United Kingdom banned several economic relations but still India’s GDP growth was very remarkable.

In the year 1999,  India Pakistan war in Kargil, Pakistani non uniform army captured the border hilltops in Kashmir valley. India recaptured the territory which was captured by Pakistan.Atal Bihari Vajpayee sent “secret letter “to the President of USA by stating that ‘if Pakistan deniesto clear the captured Line of control then Pakistan has to face major casualties by using Nuclear Power if Needed’. Atal Bihari Vajpayee stopped the Friendly Bus service from New Delhi To Lahore bus Service and also stopped trade relationships with Pakistan. Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s leadership skills and friendly nature always made India stood up strongly.

Major economic developments

In the leadership of Atal ji India had outstanding economical, infrastructure growth. Strong foreign policy aided in India’s strong foreign relations with ASEAN Countries, even the President of USA Mr Bill Clinton visited India. India had strong relationship with other countries as well.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee laid projects like National Highway Development Project and Pradhan Mantri Grammar Sadak Yojna. These Projects helped India’s by joining Villages and Highways throughout the country by making trade and infrastructure growth. In the year, 2002 and 2003 India’s GDP growth rate accelerated to the recorded level of 7%. India was lucky to have a leader and a son like Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.


Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a bachelor in his entire life. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was awarded with India’s prestigious Padma Vibushan in year, 1992 and Bharat Ratna in the year 2015.

End of an Era

Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on 16th August 2018 as the was admitted in New Delhi’s AIIMS because of prolong illness. Thus India lost it’s great son. Nothing was like him And never will be like him.
